Hello and welcome to my Clog. That is, my “comic-blog” about stuff that happens in the life of a vet surviving the perilous world of small animal veterinary with over 20 years of experience in private clinical practice. I’ve worked in three countries and consulted in three languages with clients from all over the globe and if I’ve learnt one thing, it’s that there are shared experiences and stereotypes, hilarities and frustrations wherever in the world you are working with people and their pets!
I have always used humour as a means of getting me through difficult times and I’m not sure if my type of funny is for everyone, but I’ve decided to start this wee blog as a creative outlet and fun hobby. If I can manage to bring a smile to anyone’s face or post a situation that people, vets and pet owners alike, can relate to, then I will be extremely happy.
I decided to become a vet at the age of 4- not uncommon in this massively vocational profession. (This is NOT a job for the wishy washy people who just happen to be kind of bright at school and think being a vet might be a fun challenge and who are not driven by some mad passion to help animals right from the start!) Around the age of 3 however, I did apparently first express the wish to be a circus clown, so I’m hoping to mash up both vocations in one Clog and have a bunch of fun doing it. I’m currently based somewhere in the middle of Europe and my kids have made off to university which means there is finally, miraculously a bit of time in my life for creativity at last!
I aim to bring a tiny smidgeon of humour and laughter to all who love looking after animals and their people and a glimpse behind the scenes and inside the minds of those practicing one of the noblest but also one of the hardest professions in the world. I salute you all, my fellow veterinary warriors wielding scalpels, thick feline-proof towels and bottles of diffquick fixer and smelling of the last anal gland that didn’t quite empty in the planned direction. Go forth, heal, help and LAUGH…… as much and as often as you can!
